32-year-old inmate dies in custody at Jacksonville hospital, JSO says

JACKSONVILLE, Fl. – The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said that a Duval County inmate died early Sunday morning at a Jacksonville hospital, according to a release.

The release said correctional officers were conducting rounds at the Pre-Trial Detention Facility when they noticed 32-year-old Kiara Lapearl Reid in distress.

A medical emergency was called in and rescue efforts began until the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department arrived. Reid was transported to a local medical facility by JFRD, where she died shortly after.

Reid’s cause of death continues to be an active investigation by the Medical Examiner’s Office and further information will be released as it becomes available.
