Thousands pack Daily's Place Amphitheater for first concert

Amphitheater opened Saturday night with Tedeschi Trucks Band

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Thousands packed the new Daily's Place Amphitheater Saturday night for its first concert.

Tedeschi Trucks Band performed, and fans told News4Jax that the concert and new venue exceeded expectation.

The venue was packed Saturday for opening night. Although many doubted the amphitheater would open in time, one woman said she always had faith.

"Music survives all and I feel like it's always going to be the way it is," fan Rose Gilbert said.

From Saturday night's opening number with John Clearly to the main act, Tedeschi Trucks, fans poured into the new amphitheater for great sounds in a state-of-the-art facility.

"What an amazing venue," fan Greg Rich said. "I'm very excited to check this out."

"This is my first time hearing them play, but I have grown up on it and I'm super excited," Gilbert said.

With a behind the scenes look, News4Jax took a peek at some of the upcoming events scheduled for this year, and also got an upper level view of the new stage.

One of the main attractions, the Daily's Convenience Store, is modeled after the other 30-plus Daily's Convenience stores in Jacksonville.

Although some had doubts the venue would be ready for Saturday's concert, they are satisfied with the results.

"I think they were ready for it, and I feel like they've done a good job and I'm super excited," Gilbert said.

The amphitheater was created to host concerts on Saturday nights before home games. There are plans to have close to 40 events every year.
