Expert explains why Florida would be hit harder than any other state if Obamacare subsidies expire

There is a storm brewing, and Florida is ground zero.

If Obamacare subsidies expire at the end of the year, Florida will be hit harder than any other state. The clock is ticking with Congress struggling to unite behind a plan to extend tax credits.

Florida leads the country in the number of individuals enrolled in an Affordable Care Act marketplace plan, with 1 out of 5 Floridians, or 4.7 million people, benefiting from subsidized health insurance. That’s according to KFF, an organization focused on health policy.

Scott Darius, executive director of Florida Voices for Health, joined News4JAX anchor Bruce Hamilton on The Morning Show on Wednesday. He said Florida would be hit harder than any other state in the country if Congress doesn’t act, and the state already ranks third in the nation for uninsured residents. Projections indicate some 2 million more people could be added to that number unless something happens.
