Ware County cancels after-school activities Wednesday because of weather

Ware County Schools

WARE COUNTY, Ga. – The impact of weather expected to hit Ware County on Wednesday afternoon has caused the school district to cancel all athletic and extracurricular practices and events, as well as Gator All-Star Academy.

The district said the decision was made after consulting with local emergency management personnel and the National Weather Service.

According to NWS Jacksonville, a squall line bringing damaging wind gusts, hail and isolated tornadoes will move east across inland southeast Georgia during the early to mid-afternoon hours.

The strongest impact on Ware County is expected between 1-4 p.m. Wednesday, the district said.

The district said it also wants parents to be aware that there might be delays in dismissing students because of the weather conditions, so parents who wish to check their children out early may do so.

The district will use its call-out system, website and Facebook page to share up-to-date information as it becomes available.
