WOODBINE, Ga. – Community members in Camden County are planning to come together Sunday afternoon to honor a young girl who was struck and killed by a car in Woodbine a week ago.

According to a GoFundMe, 9-year-old Jordyn Butler and her brother were playing outside with friends when she was hit by an SUV on Dec. 19.

The Camden County Sheriff’s Office said they got the call around 7 p.m. about the crash near the IGA grocery store.

Jordyn was rushed to a hospital, but she died later that night.

A lantern release is planned for 5:30 p.m. Sunday at the Woodbine Boardwalk to honor Jordyn.

Organizers say it will be a peaceful time to stand with Jordyn’s family and with one another, lifting up Jordyn’s name, her legacy, and her light.

Her celebration of life is scheduled for 1 p.m. Dec. 30 at Evergreen Missionary Baptist Church of Woodbine.

The GoFundMe for the service has raised over $15,000 so far.

In the online fundraiser, the family describes Jordyn as someone who could light up a dark room with just her smile, was loved by everyone and would always cheer you up if you were sad.

“God needed a perfect angel, so He took her home. Please pray for us during this hard time,” the family wrote.

The Georgia State Patrol is investigating the crash.
