UPS delivery delays keep family from going home for holidays

Delivery woes continue to plague shipping company as complaints flood in

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Delivery delays continue to plague UPS customers around Jacksonville who have contacted News4Jax about the issues, hoping to draw attention to the problem.

One Clay County family rebuilding their home after Hurricane Irma said they waited more than 10 days from the scheduled delivery date for their sink to arrive.

The storm forced the Taylor family to move out of their Middleburg home and rebuild it from bottom to top.

“After the storm, we essentially had to take the house up about 4 feet all the way around. You can see the white lines and had to take the drywall out to the studs and pull out all the flooring,” Mark Taylor said.

The family said they were hoping to move back in by Christmas.

But items they need to repair their home still haven’t been delivered by UPS, pushing their move-in date back by three weeks.

UPS told the Taylors they couldn’t come to the distribution center to pick up their boxes, so they have to wait, which is keeping them from moving back into their home in time for the holidays.

“We’re ready to be home,” Taylor said.

After News4Jax spoke with the Taylors and contacted UPS, the family's much-needed sink arrived, but other packages still haven't been delivered.

The Taylors said the biggest issues is UPS not notifying them about why there have been delays or when their packages will be delivered.

Taylor said it will be tough not spending Christmas at home with his family. But he hopes other families won’t be impacted by the shipping delays this holiday season.

UPS said potential reimbursements for delays will be handled on a case-by-case basis.

The company released a statement Friday:

“Through a combination of new capacity and seasonal hiring, UPS expects to process nearly double the normal average daily volume of more than 19 million packages and documents.”
