Man hospitalized after shooting on Jacksonville’s Hart Bridge

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A man was hospitalized Friday night after he was shot while driving on the Hart Bridge, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

According to Lt. McCormick, with the Sheriff’s Office, police were notified of the incident at about 5:30 p.m.

“We received reports of gunfire on the Hart Bridge northbound between a couple vehicles on the bridge,” McCormick explained.

He said while officers were responding, they learned that one of the vehicles involved arrived at an emergency room downtown.

The man, who was said to be in his early 20s, did not have injuries that were believed to be life-threatening, McCormick said. He was transported to a Gainesville hospital for further treatment.

“We’re still trying to work out a motive. There’s very little information to go on other than a possible silver sedan,” McCormick said.

He said the shooting appeared to have been targeted.

Anyone with information was urged to contact the Sheriff’s Office at 904-630-0500 or submit an anonymous tip to Crime Stoppers of Northeast Florida.
