Man killed, another wounded in shooting at Sydney Trace Apartments

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said police were sent to investigate a shooting at the Sydney Trace Apartments on Monday night, which is on Merchants Way just off Oakleaf Village Parkway.

Sgt. Chris Stephens, with the Sheriff’s Office, said police were dispatched at about 7:20 p.m. He said two men were found inside a vehicle suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

“As of now, we believe the males were seated inside of their vehicle in the parking lot of an apartment complex when a suspect approached their vehicle and began firing into it,” Stephens said.

Stephens said both were transported to a hospital for treatment, where one man died. The other was said to be in stable condition. The shooter fled the area, and there was no suspect description.

Both men were said to be in their 20s.
