Carpet installer finds body inside Westside apartment, Jacksonville police say

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A worker going to install carpet inside a Westside apartment on Friday found a man dead, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said.

Sgt. Steve Rudlaff, with the Sheriff’s Office Homicide Unit, said police responded about 10 a.m. to an apartment complex on Lane Avenue South near Park Street.

A worker with a carpet company told police that he was there to install carpet into a vacant apartment, and as he went into the unit, he found the body of a man who had been shot, Rudlaff said.

Rudlaff said that the man shot to death was 20 to 30 years old and that police were working to identify him.

According to investigators, several residents of the apartment complex heard gunfire Thursday evening but did not call police.
