First HBCU-inspired elementary school opens in Jacksonville

Jacksonville’s newest charter school is officially open

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The “Becoming Collegiate Academy” — an HBCU-inspired elementary school — hosted its ribbon-cutting ceremony Tuesday in North Jacksonville.

It is the first HBCU-inspired elementary school to open in Jacksonville.

The new charter school currently serves kindergarten and first grade and plans to add one grade each year until it reaches full capacity at fifth grade.

The school is a tuition-free, college-preparatory public school inspired by the academics and learning environments of HBCUs.

The school’s founder, Cameron Frazier says, it’s important to have a school like this open.. and the students are JUST as excited. He hopes his model can inspire the next generation of learners and leaders. Frazier is a Jacksonville native, longtime educator, and community leader.
