JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – An investigation is underway after firefighters responded to a “suspicious” fire that broke out in a vacant building in the Brooklyn neighborhood Friday morning, according to the Jacksonville Fire Rescue Department.
According to JFRD, first responders were able to put out the fire at the two-story apartment located on Spruce Street.

The fire is being ruled as suspicious, and arson investigators are looking into this incident, according to JFRD. No injuries were reported.
Jacksonville Fire Captain Eric Prosswimmer said the Red Cross is helping four adults and one child as a result of the fire because their apartment is in the same building where the fire happened.
Their apartment was not damaged by the fire, however, crews had to cut the electricity inside the building until further notice.
