Man dead after hit by truck on Merrill Road near Arlex Drive

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A man is dead after being hit by a pickup truck on Merrill Road near Arlex Drive in Jacksonville’s Fairways Forest neighborhood Sunday night.
According to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, the crash happened at 6:00 pm Sunday night in the 7000 block of Merrill Road.
A man in his 70s was on the north side of Merrill Road. He then ran south across all lanes and was hit by a pickup truck heading eastbound.
Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department pronounced the man dead on scene.
This is the 174th traffic fatality in Duval County this year.
Eastbound lanes of Merrill Road are currently closed at Arlex Drive East due to the crash. The 7000 block of Merrill Road will be closed for another hour while detectives conduct the traffic crash investigation.
