Former Latitude 360 owner facing 5 years in prison for tax evasion asks for reduced sentence

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The former owner of Jacksonville entertainment complex Latitude 360 is asking for a reduced sentence in his tax evasion case.

Brent Brown pleaded guilty to one count of tax evasion in January after he entered a plea deal following being charged with 17 counts of failing to remit to the IRS payroll taxes withheld from employees of the entertainment complex in 2022.

He is facing up to five years in prison, but according to the sentencing memorandum filed by Brown’s attorney on Wednesday, they are requesting a “below-guidelines sentence.”

The memo did not ask for a specific sentence, but it said the government’s pre-sentencing report calculated the sentencing guideline to range from 30 to 37 months.

Brown opened Latitude 360 in Jacksonville in early 2011 near The Avenues Mall and four subsidiaries in other states. The Jacksonville business closed in January 2016.

Brown’s sentencing is scheduled for April 9.
