JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Although the second installment of the Jax River Jams concert is canceled, the music will continue in downtown Jacksonville’s nightlife district.

Organizers initially canceled the concert after Thursday’s storms. A tornado was reported that caused damage in several St. Johns County subdivisions.

“After closely monitoring the weather situation for today, the tough decision has been made to cancel tonight’s Jax River Jams concert,” organizers wrote in an email to news outlets.

The event is still canceled but the local and regional openers will perform at venues in The Elbow: Downtown’s Nightlife District. The performances are free.

  • Coyboi will perform at Justice Pub on 315 E. Bay Street at 6 p.m.
  • Future Joy and Kenzie’s Place with Kale that Raps will hit the stage at Underbelly on 113 E. Bay Street at 10 p.m.

“The River Jams site was in no condition for an event this evening, given today’s earlier wind and rain, and the fact that high wind gusts are expected to continue throughout the evening,” said Alex Alston, Chief of Sports & Entertainment for the City of Jacksonville. “As a result, we did not know when our production team would be able to safely get on-site to set up – or even if they would have enough time to do so. Nor could we ensure their safety or the safety of the performers, our staff and volunteers, and our attendees, which is always our priority. Thank you for your understanding – we look forward to seeing you at next week’s show.”

The Jax River Jams series will resume next week with hip-hop duo EARTHGANG headlining on April 18.

Local and regional openers include: L.O.V.E. Culture featuring Ebonique, Wahid & Mr. Al Pete; Jeff Skigh featuring BayBro, Figga Da Kid, King Ca$hes & Twice; and Full Plate Fam.

Initially, organizers opted to delaying the opening of the concert gates until 5:30 p.m. but by 1 p.m., they decided to call it off altogether.
