7-year-old child dead after ATV overturns on him in Putnam County

PUTNAM COUNTY, Fla. – A 7-year-old child died after an ATV overturned on him at the Hog Waller Mud Bog and ATV Park in Putnam County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The ATV was being driven by an adult with the child sitting behind him just after 2 p.m. Sunday.

Officials said the ATV overturned while making a sharp turn. The ATV then landed on the child as he struck a tree stump.

The child was taken to the hospital where he died, according to investigators.

The 32-year-old man driving the ATV suffered minor injuries.

Both the child and the driver are from Reddick, Florida. Neither was wearing a helmet, FHP said.
