Jacksonville leaders pay tribute to workers who died on the job in 2023

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Northeast Florida Safety Council held a ceremony to pay tribute to nine workers who died while on the job in 2023.

These workers were recognized with a reading of their names and an empty chair with a flower placed on the seat.

The 9th annual Jacksonville Workers’ Memorial Day Observance Ceremony took place at the Northeast Florida Safety Council offices.

“We recognize the impact these tragic losses have on families, coworkers, and communities,” said Catherine Sutton, Safety Council CEO. “This event renews our commitment to the value of safety, health, and environmental protections for all workers.”

The City of Jacksonville proclaimed April 26 to be Workers’ Memorial Day.
