NASSAU COUNTY, Fla. – A driver and passenger died Tuesday after a crash on U.S. Highway 17 in Nassau County.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the driver of a Dodge pick-up truck heading north lost control of his vehicle and swerved into the path of a Kia Sportage traveling southbound around 6:40 p.m.
The two vehicles collided head-on and the truck flipped over a concrete wall near Quail Ridge Road in Yulee, FHP said, resulting in the death of the 58-year-old Fernandina Beach man driving the truck. FHP said the man was not wearing a seatbelt.
The passenger in the Kia Sportage, a 48-year-old woman from Hilliard, was also killed in the crash. The 53-year-old man, also from Hilliard, who was driving the Kia was seriously hurt. Both were wearing seatbelts, FHP said.
