Frustration rises among some Lake Asbury residents over traffic delays, congestion caused by ongoing road construction

Residents told News4JAX about traffic delays and congestion from construction on Sandridge Road in Lake Asbury.

The project is supposed to design and reconstruct the roadway from Henley Road to the west of County Road 209.

News4Jax reporter Aleesia Hatcher spoke to a resident about the project and how they are being impacted.

“I have to leave almost a whole extra half an hour earlier, and I’m already getting up you know sometimes at six in the morning, so it’s pretty difficult,” resident Austin Buckley said.

The project began summer of 2023 and Buckley said it’s just been getting worse.

“They’re ripping up the roads, and they are adding new sections and new barriers, which kind of makes it, you know, less accessible for people to pass if they want pass. And they’re focusing on the developments and ripping up the developments for new houses more than they are the roads,” Buckley said. “In my opinion, you should really finish a section before you move on and start ripping up another one because it’s interfering with everyone’s lives.”

News4JAX contacted county officials to learn more about the project, and responded in part:

“We appreciate our community’s patience as we work to complete these projects as quickly as possible. County Road 209 is one of several ongoing road projects throughout the county that are aimed to improve our roads, alleviate congestion, make them safer, and prepare for the growth we are experiencing daily,” officials said.

The project is expected to be completed by spring 2025.
