Florida’s recreational harvest of flounder reopens Dec. 1. Here’s what you need to know about the regulations

Flounder fishing regulations (FWC)

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The recreational harvest of flounder in all Florida state and federal waters will reopen Dec. 1.

According to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, the minimum size limit for flounder is 14 inches total length and the daily recreational bag limit is five fish per person.

There are also gear requirements:

  • Legal gear: Spears, gigs, hook and line, seine, cast net
  • Illegal gear: Harvest is prohibited by or with the use of any multiple hooks in conjunction with live or dead natural bait; snatching is prohibited

These regulations apply to Gulf flounder, Southern flounder, summer flounder and fringed flounder.

Flounder regulations are for state and federal waters off Florida. Special regulations apply for this species when finishing at Biscayne National Park.

The recreational harvest of flounder is closed annually from Oct. 15 to Nov. 30.
