Diocese of St. Augustine leader explains process & politics of conclave

If you look at the history of the College of Cardinals and conclaves -- the process of electing popes -- there is one lesson: To expect the unexpected.

The election in 2013 proved that when the conclave chose Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio of Buenos Aires, who became Pope Francis.

Francis was liberal on social issues, but conservative when it came to church teachings.

Where the Cardinal electors choose to take the church from here is anybody’s guess.
