JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – JEA’s vegetation management crews are working to ensure power lines are clear of tree limbs or branches that could impact electric access during a storm.
Tree trimming work is done all year but becomes a priority as hurricane season approaches.
Tree trimming helps JEA provide safe electricity to homes throughout the year, which can be affected by unstable trees.
JEA can only remove vegetation that is considered an electric hazard.
It’s the responsibility of property owners to inspect their trees, including ones that are not near power lines, for anything that could cause a problem during a storm. This includes dead or dying trees.
Healthy trees can better survive storms.
JEA is also asking residents to inspect their address visibility.
It’s important that all of the numbers can be seen from the street in case of an emergency. Crews will be able to locate you more efficiently if they are called for help.
JEA asks that residents schedule tree work in advance in order to stay prepared in case a storm approaches sooner than expected.
The utility also encourages residents to check their neighbors also because trees can fall across a boundary and onto your “side of the fence” during a storm.
