TAMPA, Fla. – With Memorial Day weekend quickly approaching, AAA is gearing up to help more than 378,000 stranded drivers nationwide, but it’s also taking steps to prevent driving tragedies.
The Auto Club Group is activating its Tow to Go service in Florida to offer a confidential and free ride for drivers who find themselves too impaired to drive.

For over 25 years, Tow to Go has removed nearly 30,000 impaired drivers from roadways.
When a person calls, a tow truck is dispatched to transport the person and car to a safe location within a 10-mile radius.
The service is free and available to AAA members and non-members.

- Available in: Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Michigan, North Dakota, Nebraska, Tennessee, Wisconsin, Colorado (Denver), North Carolina (Charlotte), and Indiana (Fort Wayne/South Bend)

“AAA’s ‘Tow to Go’ program is designed to remove impaired drivers from the road before disaster strikes,” said Mark Jenkins, spokesman for The Auto Club Group (AAA). “While this service is here for emergencies, we strongly urge everyone to plan ahead for a safe ride home. Because making responsible choices can stop a tragedy from happening.”
Tow to Go Guidelines
- Free and available to members and non-members
- Confidential ride for one person and their car to a safe location within a 10-mile radius
- The service cannot be scheduled in advance. It is a last resort safety option.
- Remember to always choose a designated driver before celebrating
- In certain situations, AAA may arrange alternative transportation for impaired individuals.
- Services may not be available in rural areas or during severe weather conditions.
