JSO said in August 2024, suspects shot into an occupied home on Park Avenue, killing the homeowner’s 5-year-old Great Dane named Naomi on the front porch.
The homeowner said the bullet that hit Naomi would have struck the bedroom behind her.
“She was definitely saving my son’s life. If she wouldn’t have stood up when she did, my son would not be here today. She honestly took the bullet for my son,” the woman said.
Detectives used ballistic information to identify Logan Kurlin, 19, and Nathan Kizer, 22. A stolen Hyundai Sonata was also recovered.
JSO said Kurlin and Kizer linked the group to multiple shootings that were reported and unreported. Eleven separate shooting-related cases were cleared through the investigation.
Louis Gill, 23, Jeremiah Simmonds, 18, Kizer and Kurlin are charged with seven counts of attempted Murder, along with many lesser offenses, including the death of the Great Dane, JSO said.
Darrell Brill, 21, and Hannah Johnson, 16, were charged with two counts of attempted murder and lesser charges.
