FORT STEWART, Ga. The Department of Justice on Friday accused two Georgia parents, including an enlisted soldier who was living at the Fort Stewart Military Reservation, of starving their daughter to death.

Brandon M. Kelley, 29, and Stacey D. Kelley, 26, are facing charges of felony murder and two counts of second-degree murder after a federal jury alleged that their child died as a result of being deprived of adequate nourishment and medical care.

According to the DOJ, Brandon was an enlisted soldier who was living at Fort Stewart when their child died.

“The allegations in this case are heartbreaking on many levels,” said acting United States Attorney Tara M. Lyons. “Our office will continue to work with our law enforcement partners to pursue justice.”

If convicted, the Kelleys face penalties that could lead to them spending life in prison, the DOJ said, adding that there is no parole in the federal system.

The DOJ did not mention the child’s age in their news release.
