Man dies in hospital two days after being found unresponsive in his cell at Duval County Jail, police say

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A man died in the hospital on Saturday, two days after he was found unresponsive in his cell at the Duval County Jail, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

JSO said David Wayne King, 41, was taken to the hospital on Thursday by Jacksonville Fire Rescue crews and received medical care by corrections staff members before he passed away late Saturday evening.

“Detectives are actively investigating the circumstances leading up to and surrounding Mr. King’s death, reviewing all available information and interviewing witnesses,” police said. “At this time, it has been determined that there were no reported use-of-force incidents involving Mr. King and staff members or other inmates.”

JSO said King had been in their custody since early March after he was arrested for multiple crimes including Possession of a Controlled Substance and Drug Paraphernalia.
