Around 2:30 p.m. on Aug. 6, St. Johns County deputies observed an SUV traveling at a high rate of speed on I-95 and attempted a traffic stop.

The woman tried to run deputies off the road, officials said, and was seen holding a hammer out of her window during the chase.

The Florida Highway Patrol then became involved and requested the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office’s assistance on I-95 at the Duval County line.

The chase continued north on I-95 through Jacksonville’s Southside and downtown areas and the woman tried to ram law enforcement vehicles, JSO said.

JSO was able to successfully execute a PIT to disable the vehicle, officials said.

Her vehicle collided with a civilian’s vehicle on the Fuller Warren Bridge near downtown, but the driver wasn’t hurt.

The driver was arrested by FHP and is now facing several charges from multiple agencies, including reckless driving, fleeing or eluding law enforcement and aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer.
