JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The city of Jacksonville and Mayor Donna Deegan announced improvements and additions to the McCoys Creek Outfall on Thursday.
McCoys Creek, a shallow urban creek, is notorious for flooding. The barriers were being removed on Thursday. The project also widened and deepened the creek to reduce the risk of flooding.

The rollout also included a new pedestrian bridge that will provide access to a future riverfront park, replacement of the bulkhead along the creek channel and reconstruction of the Riverwalk overpass.

Soon, the city said, visitors and residents will be able to kayak along the restored creek and enjoy pedestrian-friendly pathways that bring nature right into the heart of the city.
This project will improve connectivity in downtown Jacksonville by adding new recreational opportunities and completing another section of the Emerald Trail.
