Experts discuss how new Florida law will improve understanding of blood clots, warning signs and treatments

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – An estimated 60,000 to 100,000 Americans die each year from venous thromboembolism (VTE), according to the CDC.

They are potentially life-threatening in-vein blood clots, and the people who are dying may be dying needlessly.

Florida became the first state in the nation to enact a law focused on understanding the true impact of blood clots – The Emily Adkins Protection Act.

Dr. Majdi Ashchi, a world-renowned expert on cardiology vascular medicine, and Dr. Mohannad Bisharat, the Director of Coronary Interventions at Ashchi Heart and Vascular Center, joined News4JAX Anchor Bruce Hamilton on The Morning Show to discuss the new law that will help the medical community better understand the true impact of blood clots, signs of trouble and treatments available.
