PALM BEACH COUNTY, Fla. – Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis held a groundbreaking ceremony Thursday for a new inflow pump station that will support the Everglades Agricultural Area (EAA) Reservoir project.
DeSantis said the pump station will have nine pumps and the capability to move approximately 3 billion gallons of water per day from Lake Okeechobee into the reservoir.
“This is an essential component of the EAA reservoir project,” DeSantis said.
DeSantis said the pump is slated to be completed five years ahead of their previously anticipated opening, adding that this groundbreaking marks the 80th milestone event in the Everglades restoration that has taken place since 2019.
“We’re going to continue our support for Everglades restoration, and all we’ve done to be able to promote conservation and water quality in the Free State of Florida. It’s been meaningful. It’s made a difference,” DeSantis said.
