JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A man died early Tuesday after an argument led to a shooting inside a home on Jacksonville’s Westside, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.
According to JSO, officers responded to the shooting around 3 a.m. on Lane Avenue South.
When police arrived, they found a man in his 40s who had been shot in the upper chest.
JSO said the man was transported to UF Health, where he died.
Police said they believe the man got into an argument with another man, who is believed to be 35 to 45 years old, and shot him.
“We do not know what it was about or over, but there were other people inside the residence that heard an argument. And then there was gunfire,” Sgt. Steve Rudlaff said.
The suspect left the scene. However, police said at least five people were inside the home at the time, some awake and some asleep. Those who heard the argument were being questioned.
Police said the shooter was a guest at the home.
The investigation is ongoing. As of 7 a.m., homicide detectives were still at the scene.
