Fan excitement intensifies with Jaguars on cusp of playoffs

Critical game this Sunday vs. Colts at EverBank Stadium

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Jaguars fever is beginning to increase around the city as the team has officially taken the technical lead in the AFC South.

And their biggest game of the season is this weekend against the Indianapolis Colts in the battle for first place in the division.

We’re a dozen games into the season, and the Jaguars sit in first place with an 8-4 record, but their lead is only technical because the Indianapolis Colts share the same record, and the two teams have yet to meet this season.

That will change Sunday with a showdown at The Bank.

Now, fans, including superfan Jon Fichter, are watching closely. Fichter has been chronicled by News4JAX several times because he decorated his entire home in Jaguars memorabilia.

For years, he hosted Jaguars parties in his home, but they became so popular that they moved to a larger venue and regularly involve former Jaguar players.

Fichter said the Jaguars’ record has been a great surprise.

“Pleasantly surprised. I thought they were going to do good… and every time I think they do bad, they do good," said Fichter.

He suspects by late December we’ll know whether the Jaguars are in, are playing at home and whether they (if things go really well) have a “bye” in the playoffs. Meaning they’ll skip a round.

“That’s a tricky question because with all these AFC South games we have left, I’m thinking honestly (it will be) the week before Christmas before we know if there’s a home game or away,” he said.
