JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A man died Sunday evening after a minivan he was repairing fell on him in the Baymeadows neighborhood, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

Police said they were called around 8:15 p.m. to an apartment complex on Freedom Crossing Trail in reference to a person who was unresponsive under a car.

When officers arrived, they found a man trapped under the minivan.

JSO officers and Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department firefighters freed the man from under the minivan and transported him to the hospital, where he died.

According to JSO, early investigation indicates the man was last seen working on his friend’s minivan at 5:30 p.m., and just before 8:15 p.m., a passerby found the man unresponsive under the van.

“It appeared the victim was working on the front end of the vehicle when the jack supporting it somehow became dislodged, causing the vehicle to fall on the victim,” JSO Sergeant Highfill said.

Police said there does not appear to be any foul play involved. They did not identify the victim.

The incident is being investigated as an accident.
