JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A woman and her daughter shared with News4JAX on Sunday what it was like to discover that a large pick-up truck was partially submerged in a pond at the Oasis of Mandarin apartment complex.
Sue Triplett, who lives at the complex, said she was drinking her morning coffee when a fire engine and ambulance showed up at the complex and drove around the side of her building.
Curious, she went through her apartment to the back, where she was surprised to find a large red pick-up truck in the retention pond behind her unit.
Triplett messaged her daughter, Amanda Simpson, who usually picks her up on Sundays for church.
“Mom messaged me and was like, ‘There’s a truck in the pond,’” Simpson said. “So I rushed over here to make sure everything was OK, and, of course, there is a truck in the pond.”
Simpson and Triplett said a diver went into the pond to make sure no one was in the vehicle.
Police told News4JAX that no injuries were reported from the incident, but it’s unclear how the truck ended up in the pond because no tire marks were visible anywhere around the pond.
“They walked all around the pond,” Triplett said, “and they couldn’t find any tire tracks.”
