JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A former substitute teacher assigned to Lake Shore Middle School is accused of encouraging two students to fight while on school grounds, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

Officials said in a letter to parents and guardians that Ladejah Shaw, 29, is facing multiple charges, including child neglect and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

The letter said that the charges come from allegations that the teacher “encouraged two students to fight while on school grounds.”

JSO said the fight happened in October when Shaw had her class outside and students formed a circle around the two students who were fighting.

Multiple students had their phones out recording the moments leading up to the fight, including when she encouraged them to fight.

JSO went to her apartment on Wednesday and arrested her.

“The alleged behavior is unacceptable, and Duval County Public Schools maintains a zero-tolerance policy for any conduct that jeopardizes student safety,” Duval County Public Schools said in a statement.

Shaw was an ESS employee and not DCPS.
