‘It’s very rewarding’: Local charity, St. Johns County firefighters team up to give Christmas gifts to 205 families

One factor fueling St. Johns County's budget for the 2026 fiscal year is the need to keep the county's fire rescue services out of the red. | Noah Hertz, Jacksonville Today (Copyright 2025 by WJXT News4JAX - All rights reserved.)

Organizers said this event brings out the best in the community, and this goes a long way.

The families will be visiting the Fire and Rescue headquarters this morning and afternoon to pick up these gifts.

The families have already been pre-selected, but this will be a drive-thru event.

Each child will get an outfit, a pair of shoes, and six to eight presents.

Organizers told News4JAX that these are all low-income families that are chosen through the school district and the Homeless Coalition of St. Johns County.

“It’s very rewarding in the end to see what we’re doing. We even get letters and pictures sometimes after Christmas from the families telling us that their children were able to have a Christmas because of us,” Jenn Hampton with SJCFR said.

The event runs from 8 a.m. to 4 pm. Again, recipients have already been pre-selected.
