‘Somebody help me!’: Neighbor recalls hearing woman yell after deadly double shooting at Orange Park home

ORANGE PARK, Fla. – Residents of the Savannah Glen subdivision in Orange Park described the chaotic scene of the shooting that left two women dead on Wednesday night.

Neighbors told News4JAX they heard multiple gunshots coming from the home on Hanging Moss Drive.

“I heard eight to 10 shots. I was in my back bedroom. Me and my wife jumped up, ran to the front but we could not see. my wife said to call 911 so I’ll call 911. The dispatcher said do not go out. Stay inside and we will dispatch someone,” a neighbor, who did not want to be identified but has lived in the neighborhood for 25 years, said.

CCSO said that the suspect is in custody.

According to jail records, the suspect was identified as 22-year-old Taylor Marques Lomax, a U.S. Navy sailor from Birmingham, Alabama.

The neighbor also told News4JAX he heard a woman, who was not hurt in the shooting, yelling and asking for help.

“Yelling, ‘Help me. Help me. Somebody help me!’ When I got out here. She was still hysteric,” he said.

He also saw Lomax getting arrested.

“He raised his hands, got down on his knees. Then law enforcement came,” he said. “This does not happen in this neighborhood. It is very quiet. Very peaceful back here.”

Ashley Durham, who has lived in the neighborhood for 15 years, said she was in her garage at the time and heard at least two gunshots.

“I was walking through the garage, and I heard popping noises. I am like ‘OK, I know they are not doing construction. It is not fireworks.’ I went back into the house and did not think anything of it. It is just too close to home. It is very scary because they are kids and we usually do not have crime in this neighborhood. I just feel sorry for the victims,” Durham said.

The sheriff’s office said the investigation is still ongoing and more details will be released when they are available.
