JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Franchising is emerging as a powerful option for entrepreneurs in Jacksonville and the surrounding region, providing a proven business model that helps reduce risk and accelerate success. David Montanez, vice president of franchise development for Authority Brands, shared insights on the current franchise landscape in Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia during a recent episode of This Week in Jacksonville: Business Edition.
Authority Brands represents 15 home service franchises, including well-known names like Ben Franklin Plumbing, One Hour Heating and Air, Mr. Sparky Electric, and Junkluggers. These brands focus on essential services that homeowners rely on year-round, from plumbing and HVAC to pet waste removal and pool maintenance.

Montanez emphasized that franchising is accessible to many entrepreneurs, including veterans transitioning from military service. “Many of our franchisees are veterans who bring discipline and a willingness to follow a proven system,” he said. “Franchising allows them to bet on themselves with a lower risk because the blueprint for success is already in place.”
The investment required varies by brand, with most opportunities available for around $250,000 or less. Financing options such as SBA loans are often available, and Authority Brands supports franchisees with purchasing equipment, insurance, and other essentials through their buying group, BiMAX.
The current economic environment is prompting many professionals to leave corporate jobs and pursue entrepreneurship through franchising. Montanez noted, “People are saying, ‘If I’m going to work hard, I want to work for myself and reap the rewards.’ This shift is driving strong franchise growth nationally and locally.”
In Jacksonville, Authority Brands currently has eight active franchises and sees room for expansion with seven more brands available in the market. The company recently celebrated selling its 200th new franchise this year and expects continued growth in 2026.
Franchising not only offers stability and scalability for business owners but also creates meaningful community impact by providing steady jobs and opportunities for employees to become franchise owners themselves.
For those considering a career change or new business venture, exploring franchise options can be a valuable step. Montanez advises, “Looking is free. Take the time to explore franchises that align with your passion and skills. It could be the right move to secure your family’s future.”
As franchising continues to thrive in Jacksonville, it presents a promising avenue for entrepreneurs seeking a supportive, proven path to business ownership.
