JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – HCA Florida Memorial Hospital donated thousands of dollars and a canned food sculpture to the St. Johns Food Pantry on Friday morning.

The hospital’s canned food drive sculpture of the St. Augustine Lighthouse & Maritime Museum won the HCA South Atlantic Division contest and placed second runner-up in HCA Healthcare’s national contest.

The winnings — a total of $15,000 — were donated to the St. Johns Food Pantry, along with the sculpture, on Friday morning, according to the hospital.

The sculpture, which towers 15 feet tall in the hospital’s main lobby, is built from 1,350 cans of soup weighing more than 900 pounds.

The cans are wrapped in black and white paper to mirror the lighthouse’s distinctive striped pattern.

The sculpture’s lights and rotating beacon were officially switched on during a news conference last month by Jason Titcomb, executive director of the St. Augustine Lighthouse & Maritime Museum.

Hospital leaders said the project was part of a broader effort to support community health and address food insecurity in the region.
