Thomas Jefferson Elementary students ‘safely transported’ to Ed White High School after power outage, DCPS says

DUVAL COUNTY, Fla. – Thomas Jefferson Elementary students were “safely transported” to Ed White High School after a power outage disrupted school activities Friday afternoon, according to Duval County Public Schools.

DCPS said school officials decided to relocate students for the remainder of the school day.

“We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience and understanding as we prioritize the safety and supervision of our students. We will follow up if there are any updates,” DCPS wrote in the communication shared with families at Thomas Jefferson Elementary School.

DCPS shared the following important information with families:

  • Early student pick-up: Parents may pick up their child at Ed White High School early by reporting to the front office and following normal pick-up procedures.
  • Dismissal: School dismissal will take place at Ed White at the normal dismissal time of 3 p.m.
    • Bus riders: Students who ride the bus will be picked up from Ed White.
    • Car riders and walkers: Please plan to pick up your child at Ed White High School.
  • Extended Day: Extended Day services are canceled today.

JEA told News4JAX the power was restored after crews replaced 200 feet of burnt cable. A spokesperson said power was out from 8 a.m. to 1:06 p.m.
