JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Jacksonville Animal Care & Protective Services is asking the community to come forward with information after a dog was found tied up to a tree and shot multiple times near the San Marco neighborhood.

In a Facebook post, ACPS said about a week ago, a young blue and white pitbull terrier wearing a blue harness was found dead, tied to a tree in the area of Gila Lane, near the intersection of Hendricks Avenue and Emerson Street. Someone had restrained him and then shot him multiple times, the agency said.

“What happened to Valor was not an accident. This was not neglect. This was a violent crime against a defenseless animal. Someone made a horrific choice. And then that someone walked away. And we’re making this post now because the person who did this is still out there,” ACPS said in the post.

ACPS said the officer who found the dog named him “Valor.”

Now, ACPS is asking for anyone with information to come forward.

“We need your help, Duval: someone knows something. Someone saw something. Someone has heard a name, a story, a rumor. Silence protects the wrong person,” ACPS said. “It is critical that we hold the person who did this accountable...Justice for Valor starts with you.”
