Fernandina Beach drops the shrimp for annual New Year’s celebration
FERNANDINA BEACH, Fla. – Before the clock struck 12, Fernandina Beach dropped its shrimp to celebrate the new year.
Thousands of residents and visitors gathered along the riverfront in downtown Fernandina Beach to watch the newly upgraded shrimp fall from the sky at 7 p.m. as part of its annual tradition.

This year, an upgraded shrimp, which included LED lights and a new fishing pole, was debuted. News4JAX caught up with Josh, the man in charge of enhancing interactive experiences.
“We wanted to create something that was iconic for the event,” he said on Wednesday. “It’s such a magical event for years, and we wanted something awesome.”
