JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said two of its officers shot and killed a man Monday night after he pulled a gun while he was being questioned in the Bartram Park area near the Duval-St. Johns County line.
Police said they responded to the Luxor Club Apartments on Egrets Nest Drive around 8:30 p.m. after receiving multiple 911 calls about a domestic dispute in the area. Officers later determined it was an argument between a husband and wife.
According to JSO, one caller said she heard a woman screaming. When she stepped outside to see what was going on, she said she saw a woman on top of a Tesla banging on the hood of the vehicle. The woman then got out of the car, and the man, identified as 35-year-old Daniel Rodriguez, drove away before returning to the complex.
“At first, I thought it was fireworks, but then I said ‘no’ because I heard about seven shots ‘bam bam bam bam,’” Jeff Tuck, who lives in the area, told News4JAX. “Definitely the first time I have ever heard gunshots since I have been here, and I’ve been here three years.”
Another 911 caller said Rodriguez had a gun at his side when he returned.
Officers said they separated the couple to get both sides of the story. The woman said they were married and that her husband owned two firearms.
When officers went to approach Rodriguez, they said he pulled a firearm from his waistband, leading the JSO officers to fire at him.
Aid was rendered to Rodriguez at the scene before he was transported to the hospital, where he died, JSO said.

JSO identified the two officers who shot Rodriguez as officers J. Rodrick and J. Milam.
Officer Rodrick has been with JSO for six years, and this was his second officer-involved shooting. Officer Milam has been with JSO for four years, and this was his first officer-involved shooting.
The State Attorney’s Office was on scene investigating.
This incident marked the first officer-involved shooting for JSO in 2026.
Just minutes after this shooting, JSO reported a second officer-involved shooting in the Arlington area.
In that incident, three JSO officers shot a 68-year-old man who police said pointed a rifle at them before he barricaded himself inside an Arlington home for about three hours.
The man was transported to a hospital, and his condition remained unknown.
