BAKER COUNTY, Fla. – A man from Sanderson is facing a second-degree murder charge after he shot at a Baker County deputy twice with a shotgun, according to the Baker County Sheriff’s Office.
The man, 65-year-old Kenneth Goethe Sr., was arrested on the night of Jan. 6 after deputies responded to reports of a domestic disturbance on County Road 120 in the northeast Sanderson area.

Upon arrival, deputies say they saw Goethe through a bedroom window and announced their presence.
Deputies say that when Goethe witnessed law enforcement in his yard, he opened his window, threw his large dog into the yard while yelling, “Get him.” The dog ran toward law enforcement, but quickly retreated and was not harmed, the sheriff’s office said.
As that was happening, deputies say Goethe retrieved a shotgun and pointed it out the window in the direction of law enforcement. He later opened a door and shot twice toward deputies, the Baker County Sheriff’s Office said.
“With the assistance of a family member, Goethe was able to be subdued, disarmed, and taken into custody by deputies without being harmed,” the agency added. “[Deputies] are grateful for the heroic actions shown and [for] the family member who assisted during the potentially deadly encounter.”
Goethe faces charges of attempted second-degree murder of a law enforcement officer, aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, domestic battery by strangulation, and battery (domestic) on a person 65 years of age or older.
