Shands Bridge construction completes earlier than expected (Florida Department of Transportation)
The Shands Bridge project, initially slated for a two-weekend closure, wrapped up ahead of schedule, sparing drivers another weekend of detours between Clay and St. Johns counties.
The Florida Department of Transportation anticipated the construction to initially take two weekends to complete, but after 56 hours of work from Friday night into early Monday morning, crews were able to successfully replace two spans of the Shands Bridge, connecting Clay and St. Johns counties.

Traffic was rerouted over the weekend to accommodate the construction plans, but there is no further need for a disruption, according to FDOT.
