PUTNAM COUNTY, Fla. – Putnam County schools will have additional law enforcement on Friday after a “heated exchange” between an adult and a child during an online gametriggered a school threat investigation, according to the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office.

PCSO said it received a tip on Thursday about a possible threat of violence to a school. That tip, which came from several states outside of Putnam County, emerged when an adult got angry about the outcome of the online game and threatened to cause harm at a school.

Putnam County detectives worked quickly to pinpoint the location of the adult gamer who was suspected of making the threat and lives in Putnam County.

Detectives met with the adult and during the investigation, they found that he did not have guns or access to guns.

The sheriff’s office said there is no information that the child playing the game lives in the area, since the tip came from multiple locations across the country.

“As we have stated in the past we treat every threat seriously,” the sheriff’s office wrote. “While there is no criminal offense and this appears to be a comment made during a heated verbal exchange, we will have additional law enforcement in Putnam County schools tomorrow out of an abundance of caution.”

The sheriff’s office also thanked those who provided the tip.

“No matter how big or small, these tips help ensure we are able to keep our community safe. We are fortunate that this tip is a non-credible threat."
