WAYCROSS, Ga. – Snow flurries were possible Sunday morning in Southeast Georgia, but the anticipated wintry weather never materialized. Instead, the region saw a rainy, gray day.
News4JAX reporter Caleb Yauger spent the day in Waycross, where conditions stayed wet and mild — a sharp contrast to the memorable snowfall that hit the area about a year ago.

That earlier storm brought slick roads and scenes unfamiliar to many in the region: cars sliding on ice, children making snow angels and throwing snowballs, and families bundling up to build snowmen.
Last year, News4JAX spoke with residents who talked about how quickly conditions turned hazardous.
“That ice right here went underneath and ripped his bumper off,” passenger Sabrina Marx said, describing damage caused by the frozen roads.
For some parents, the storm offered a rare chance for children to play in snow close to home.
“I wanted them to be able to get out and play and run around, have a fun time,” said Cameron Frazier, a Fernandina Beach resident.
Sunday’s rain fell as businesses and residents kept an eye on the forecast after last year’s storm caused damage in parts of the region. In Waycross, the memory of last winter’s impacts remains fresh.
One of the most significant incidents last year involved Taylor Pools, where the weight of snow contributed to a building collapse. Employees told News4JAX at the time that the roof caved in overnight. On Sunday, the business has signage indicating it is open, directing customers to use a side entrance. Construction equipment was visible at the front of the property.

Elsewhere in the region, light snow was reported farther west.
In Florida’s Panhandle, unofficial totals Sunday morning included 1.1 inches in Crestview, with areas such as Milton reporting just under an inch.
