The sheriff’s office said at 5:19 p.m. Saturday, deputies responded to a report of domestic violence off of Harry Rewis Road. It was reported that a man had been shot by a family member.
According to BCSO, as deputies approached the home, Hodges began shooting at them. The deputies then returned fire, critically wounding Hodges.
One deputy was shot in the arm, and he was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, the sheriff’s office said.
The deputy has since been released from the hospital and is at home with his family, according to BCSO.
“Sheriff Scotty Rhoden is thankful that the deputy’s injuries were not serious and is grateful for the outpouring of support and prayers. Please continue to keep the deputy and his family in your prayers as he recovers. We also ask the community to keep the other family involved in this incident in your thoughts and prayers as well,” the sheriff’s office wrote in an update posted on Facebook late Saturday.
About an hour later, the sheriff’s office said it received notification that Hodges had died at the hospital.
Hodges was later identified as the son of the man who was found shot inside the home. The victim was identified as 60-year-old Marcus Gene Hodges.
Detectives were still working to determine what led to the shooting.
