The sheriff’s office said at 5:19 p.m. Saturday, deputies responded to a report of domestic violence off of Harry Rewis Road. It was reported that a man had been shot by a family member.

According to BCSO, as deputies approached the home, Hodges began shooting at them. The deputies then returned fire, critically wounding Hodges.

BCSO believes the suspect had killed his father moments before the shootout with deputies.

The deputy suffered non-life-threatening injuries. He has since been released from the hospital and is at home with his family, according to BCSO.

“Sheriff Scotty Rhoden is thankful that the deputy’s injuries were not serious and is grateful for the outpouring of support and prayers. Please continue to keep the deputy and his family in your prayers as he recovers. We also ask the community to keep the other family involved in this incident in your thoughts and prayers as well,” the sheriff’s office wrote in an update posted on Facebook late Saturday.

Detectives were still working to determine what led to the shooting.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the officer-involved shooting.
