FERNANDINA BEACH, Fla. – A 14-year-old was recognized at the Fernandina Beach city commission meeting on Tuesday for helping find a woman with dementia who went missing.
On Dec. 12, Bentley Sapp overheard a family at the Zaxby’s on South 14th Street searching for a loved one with dementia. Sapp jumped on his bike and went in the direction of where she was last seen.

Officials said Sapp found her at a nearby business. He called 911 and comforted her until officers and her family arrived.
“His bravery and compassion helped bring her home safely, and the outcome could have been far worse without him,” Sapp said. “We are incredibly proud of you, Bentley.”
