Jacksonville mom’s faith, family support fuel fight to walk again after accident

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Stephanie Miller is working hard to walk again after a crash last month left her paralyzed from the chest down.

Miller spoke about her progress and determination, saying, “I haven’t made much progress, but hey, we’re not letting that get us down. That’s not going to stop me. I will never stop.”

Despite the severity of the crash, Miller’s 10-month-old son emerged without a scratch, a miracle she deeply appreciates.

“Every single window was blown out in my car except for the window next to him. And I just know that he was saved and that I was saved,” she said.

A GoFundMe set up by Miller’s father has raised more than $37,000. The family hopes to raise $1 million to cover the extensive care she will need during recovery.

When asked if the situation tested her faith, Miller said, “This has grown my faith in ways that are unheard of. I mean, this is going to be, and it is, my testimony. I am closer to God than I have ever been.”

On December 12, Miller was driving her son to her fiancé Jeremy’s parents’ house on her way to work when the crash happened.

She recalls, “I’m driving down South 95 to St. Augustine and all of a sudden I wake up and I’m laying over the passenger side of my car.”

Her car flipped and crossed from the southbound to the northbound side of I-95. Several people stopped to help her and her son.

“They were asking me to spell my name and say my birth date and I was completely coherent. I answered all their questions and they asked me if I could feel my feet, and I said no.”

Miller suffered a C7 spinal cord injury, leaving her paralyzed from the chest down, though she can still move her arms.

She said, “Every single window was blown out in my car except for the window next to him. And I just know that he was saved and that I was saved.”

Her family and fiancé have been by her side throughout her recovery journey.

Her goal is to walk again, especially to “walk down the aisle.”

She also wants to be able to pick up and play with her now 11-month-old son like before the accident.

“I want to make a full recovery and I will pray every day that I can do so and I will never give up hope that it will happen for me.”
